SPOTLIGHT EMBROIDERY DESIGN
Adinkra symbols are a unique expression of African heritage. Visual symbols with historical and philosophical significance, originally printed on fabrics that members of the royal family wore at important ceremonies. Originating from the peoples of Ghana and the Ivory Coast, the symbols have gained global significance and are now found everywhere.
Saturated with meaning, these symbols have come to symbolize the richness of Akan culture and serve as shorthand for communicating deep truths in visual form. As an example, the fact that most Ghanaian universities use at least one Adinkra symbol in their logo demonstrates the seriousness that their use symbolizes.
